Not So Much Cynicism as Resolve in the Face of Reality

We have in our midst millions of one-man militias - trusting no one, cynical about life in a changing society, convinced of the likelihood of more dysfunction and gun violence, and convinced, above all, that few in elected office have the guts to do anything about it. [More]
Start acting like you believe that, Dan, and stop with the hand-wringing and wishful subversive thinking, and you just may be able to co-exist here. Because we will not disarm.

We don't insist that you agree with us. What we do insist on is that you leave us the hell alone.

There are firehoses and steel fire doors on every floor in the stairwells of the office building where I work. Portable fire extinguishers, too. Was the architect fire-phobic, or is it better to be a little prepared in case the unthinkable comes along? Should we leave firefighting to the professionals, who MIGHT get here in time to keep the building from being gutted, or should we smack down that little smouldering trashcan now ourselves?
Those insurance company commercials. If YOU'RE a safe driver, what do YOU need insurance for?
Wearing a lifejacket means you're PLANNING to fall out of the boat and hit your head, I guess.
Right, David. We will not disarm. It's not their call.

Here's something that got me...

"the General Assembly authorized the confiscation of firearms from suspected domestic abusers. "

First let me say that anyone who preys on another is scum. Anyone who beats his/her partner is a waste of carbon. But has this society sunk so low that you don't even have to be tried and found guilty before punishment is duly doled out?

Apparently so.

how about: cynical about GOVERNMENT?

how about: convinced of having to pay yet MORE tax for MORE unconstitutional acts?

convinced elected officials aren't doing anything? well, gee, you know what OBSERVATION is, right, danielle?

it's part this wonderful thing called SCIENCE where we know stuff by testing it out first. you might have heard of it. or, perhaps not, if the only "science" you respect is academia.

try writing your own representatives some time, susie. you tell me how convinced you are by the response.

i love life, and i love liberty, and i'll be goddamned if i'm going to stand by and watch your kind piss it all away so you can keep living off of both your children and everyone else's children, dan.you're damned right we have tens of millions of one-man militias among us. and whose children are you going to smash against us like so many raw eggs on so much cement, when we decide we're not going to surrender our "share" of imperial tribute for your lifestyle anymore?

My media friend says the TEA parties are already gathering, at 2 pm. Signs seen:
Revolution IS brewing.
I used to have dollars in my pocket. Now I HOPE for CHANGE.
Clinging to my money, God and guns!
Don't take my piggy bank (child's sign)
Bailouts and stimulus: taking from the thrifty to give to the SHIFTY.
The AR-15 "Come and Take It" flag.
"Can you hear us NOW?"
God bless 'em all.

Little Tx. town 11 miles from me, peaceful folks, Hell the high school mascot is a Rabbit, they had a tea party in full swing today as I went to the feed store to buy some MORE tomato plants, have now had two sets freeze in mid April in the deep south, I blame global warming. Well, back to the subject, the participants were all very peaceful, had some speeches and of course the cops were there just in case unpermitted freedom broke out.

I ain't no one man militia. Cynical? Naw. Just been lied to, too many times, and shit on, just as many. Don't worry about them elected officials having the guts to do anything. In time, once they convince themselves they have the right and the reason to go in over their ass, they will. And when it hits the fan, we'll find useful idiot Dan under a bed or some such place, quivering like the lump of jelly he is. Then through chattering teeth, he can give us his new take on things. I'm confused. He says "millions of one man militias" like it's a BAD thing.
