Why are they doing this? Because they are Communists, they are in ower, and this is what Communists do.
Marxism has resulted in the deaths of at least 80-100 million people in the last century alone. No other brutal and cold blooded social system in the history of the world compares to that, not even the most brutal and horrific ones like the Spanish Inquisition and the Holy Roman Empire.
National Socialism and the Third Reich falls into the 'Marxist' category too. Hitler himself said that there is no difference between Marxism and National Socialism.
