A Warning

Mark my words friends. All across America groups are forming. They are forming out of anger and out of desperation at the thought of losing America . They’re not militia groups or terrorists as the Department of Homeland security would have you believe; they are Americans, loyal to the constitution. They are mothers and fathers and grandparents. They belong to groups like the Minutemen Civil Defense Corps, the Peaceful Resistance, the Constitution Party, the Young Conservatives, the 9/12 Project, and Grassfire. Right now they are fragmented, each focused on their own cause. But sometime in the next two years, our government is going to do something really stupid and these groups will come together. Watch for it, wait for it–get ready. It will happen. [More]
I could do without O'Reilly and Hannity, but a lot of the sentiment sounds about right. Sounds like an Oath Keeper and a Threeper to me...

I could also do without the McCain stuff, but this guy is very close to an epiphany. Obama is made to be a huge target, so that his silhouette is obscuring points further in the past. I realize that Obama is the Barney Fife of social planners, so he's an entertaining distraction, but it's not a good idea to get mesmerized by him.

This sort of rhetoric is extremely dangerous. If this guy had his way we would be initiating a civil war - caring out politicide in the streets - not defending the ideals of liberty or the constitution. That is to say, the constitution says nothing about European-style socialism - but that's exactly what this author is trying pin as the problem. The most egregious acts during the last 10 years have had little to do with our economic system (with the exception of the Bank Bailout, which is supported by the political establishment, not political parties).

This guy, along authors of comments I occasionally read on here, do not understand the plight of anti-authorian youth, which is unfortunate: both camps are generally dissatisfied with the government, and should be united on that front. Radicals seek "socialism" because they're tired of the abuse of "this system" - call it Capitalism, "American Way", or a plutocracy by corporation. Jerry Wilson, on the other hand, I don't know what he wants - it seems like he's just whipping up unbased fear of socialism, but offers no reformation of the current system. Is he fighting to maintain a status quo, or to return to an undefined "lost...way of life". This is extremely dangerous: after the smoke clears and dust settles, we're going to need reformation, and judging by historical examples, violence in the streets by reactionary groups leads to dictatorships. I wonder if Jerry Wilson thinks about lack of unity within this country, I know it keeps me up at night.

I like your thinking, Fidelity, and I agree with your take on things, and I share your concern for the lack of unity.

But too much unity would worry me, too. What I see now is a fragmentation of excuses to hate and fear something that's bigger than us. Too many separate little choirs, with a preacher or two to each one - preaching fear and hatred.

Just waiting for a subtler Adolph Schickelgruber or Vladimir Ulyanov to find and tug on the common thread.

I don't lose much sleep over it, tho, but this may come.
