"I Like Guns" Revisited

From Steve Lee in an email to correspondent Redleg:
Hey Redleg

Had a bit of a look at the sites you sent me. I am a little disapointed at the comments as there not true at all. I dont believe in gun control at all. There are a few differences between the U.S. and oz like we dont have the second amendment so we dont have a legal right to bear arms as you lucky buggers do. Our government tells us its a privilage for us to have guns and by the way our law has been written, we dont have much of a say.

Just to clear up my comments on the television show ACA, I did say that the government done the right thing in bringing in laws to stop people like Martin Bryant getting there hands on firearms because he was mentally insaine, and killed 33 people. the conversation on the show stopped there but it didnt stop in reallity. I went on to say that responsible gun owners should be allowed to own anything they like as they are not the problem.

Unfortunitly for Australians, we dont have the same system as you guys, ours come from England and we dont have the same legal rights as you do, we just have to do the best with what we have.

Im sorry if there has been a misunderstanding but i am completely for the right to bear arms, sadly it makes no difference for us Aussies cause we dont have the second amendment.

Please let any one that is angry at me no the truth

Kind Regards

Steve Lee

Ole Steve doesn't get it.
Rights don't come from government and can't be taken away.
Being a lucky bugger has got nothing to do with it.
Just another totalitarian apologist.

Sorry Steve, but nice try.

You were asked several questions by the reporter. You were asked "what you like about guns." Instead of saying that guns keep free people free, and honest people safe, you just re-spouted some of the lyrics to your song. In countries where limited freedom still exists many gun owners don’t necessarily like guns primarily for “their polished wood” or aesthetic reasons. They understand that the government, and the government regulations you claimed to support, can’t and won’t prevent a loved one from being defenseless to a bigger, stronger, or armed, predator. Many Americans like guns for a number of reasons – the first one being that they know that if their wife and family are home without them they are not defenseless against a criminal. And while you speak as if Aussie gun disarmament regulations save lives, you’ve clearly not done even a speck or research on the subject, or you’d have come to an alternative conclusion, and you could have stated such.
Australia chose to limit gun ownership based upon the actions of one crazy or person. You stated that the Dunblane massacre – perpetrated by a nutcake – made all Australian gun owners “look bad.” How many Aussie gun owners didn’t kill anyone that day? How do they “all look bad” when they did nothing wrong? What if there had been an armed subject present at Dunblane at the time of the murders? Might things have turned out differently? Where were your government masters when this murder spree went down? Why didn’t one of your masters save the unarmed victims?

You had the chance to tell the reporter that guns are neither good nor bad. They are inanimate objects. Guns can't actually do anything.

You had a chance to explain that disarming everyone because of the actions of one man is exactly like eliminating all swimming pools because of several drownings, or installing alcohol breath analyzers on all automobiles because of a drunken driver.

Instead, you agreed with the government regulating guns. Please stick to music. We don't need a "pro gun" spokesman like you.

Hello from South Africa!!

Well said Ned, thats exactly the info that needs to get out there. We need to change the public's perception of firearms, no matter where in the world we are.

We're fighting a similar battle in SA and those who want to check out what we up to, you more than welcome to check out http://www.gunsite.co.za/forums

Sorry for the plug, but we're in this together. The people opposing this have a global presence.
