Oath-Breaking in Iowa

The Iowa House of Representatives passed SF 2357 today. Congratulations, you just committed a treasonous act. You violated your constitutional oaths. [More]
Here's the bill.

Here's the history.

I have to wonder what pressure has been brought to bear by Iowa gun owners? Y'all been mobilizing and screaming and writing letters and scheduling appointments with your reps and writing letters to the editor and organizing meetings and corresponding and forwarding emails and links and...?

Or have most remained oblivious to guys like Iowa Patriots here who are trying their best with limited reach to warn, to mobilize...?

How many, if they hear of this at all, are getting it from some guy in Ohio...(that would be me)?

Hey, how about that young Hawkeyes offensive line, anyway...? Man, if it's anything like 2007, this could spell trouble...

Kentucky is working on a law that is just as bad. The house passed a bill requiring anyone subject to the protective order to be fitted, at the cost of the subject, with an ankle bracelet. No trial, no conviction. The senate did modify it to require that the person violate an order first, but who knows what the conference committee will come up with.
It is very easy to swear out an EPO, just fill out a few forms that the judge rubberstamps.

Sounds like it is time to start filing proceedings for "order of no contact" against all those who voted "aye".

I, for one, am scared by them and their actions.

We tried, David.

Iowa Gun Owners was working hard and the only group with a stated opinion against it, but this bill was poison to begin with - "who wants to be against women?" was the mantra at the statehouse. Iowa Sportsmen and NRA had "undecided". SF2357 Lobbyists

The house added an "Only Ones" exemption which was sent back to the senate and passed. It's now on its way to governor Chester.

I'm sorry we didn't do more.

Should have made it clearer--not--and never aimed at people doing the work. Just at the lazy ass do-nothing gun owners who are no better than welfare parasites.

David, I never took it personal from you, but I will be the first to admit that I could have done more. If for one more email/phone call, it might have channged a vote. The timing was just bad for this. My apologies are to the citizens of Iowa.

The exemption for LEO "only ones" was icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned. And that's a kick in the groin for us mere peasants.

As far as do-nothings, I met a few while working a table for IGO at a gun show last month. Hell's bells, the NRA lobbyist for Iowa wouldn't get in this fight.

Sometimes I wonder about my state.
