We're the Only Ones "Oops--Our Bad!" Enough

As the officers approached the vehicle, McKinnley slipped and his firearm went off. Officer Mitch McDannald thought the gunfire came from the suspect and he returned fire, fatally wounding Thompson. [More]
Yes, "it's unfortunate that they were put into this position," ain't it, though, Commissioner Billy?

You know--this position.

But I love how you paint it to where they're the unfortunate ones.

That is crazy that the commissioner didn't say anything about the victim or the family. It is possible that the reporter just didn't include that statement.

But really, how hard is it to remember "Keep your bugger hook off the bang switch." I am always amazed at how most of the cops I know are completely uninterested in their "craft".

And if it was the civilian who returned fire under the assumption that he was fired upon, would it be unfortunate that he was put into that position? Or would HE be unfortunate because he'd spend the rest of his life in jail, if he wasn't gunned down, like he was anyway.

The REAL unfortunate position in which the cops find themselves is that more and more of us consider them either incompetent, or the enemy. And those two are not mutually exclusive.

Hey, lets all meet at Sophie's for lunch! That's the word!

What Crotalus said....

Mckinley slipped and his firearm "went off". Yeah, thats what happened.

If I murder a man, can I say, "Hey, I slipped!" ????

Left this comment at the article: Uh, I believe the story said it happened at night. The killer cop could see the target well enough to kill him, but couldn't see there was no muzzle flash from the vehicle? Uh, I ain't buying it.

And isn't it strange that the department categorizes this as "unfortunate" for the officers? A Hell of a lot more unfortunate for the wrongfully killed guy, don't you think? Just think, if an honest competent cop had been there instead of these two clowns, nobody would have been hurt. MY! How unfortunate for these poor, poor officers. :::

Crotalus, you know the answer to that question. Think Corey Maye.

Way ahead of you, SA. Corey Maye was who I was thinking of.
