It's difficult to distinguish between innocence and naivete',
I think the world needs more innocents, and we are less for their slaughter. These two people lived secure in their own world, and died in the real world.
They should have stayed in their world, and avoided ours. It's too late for them now, but perhaps they served a purpose as a warning to other innocents: DO NOT GO INTO THE BASEMENT!

One can only hope not. Unfortunately, there are too many copies of that gene floating around for this single couple's exiting the gene pool to make any difference.
