I love the way the "watchdog press" covers up for these stormtroopers--saying they're not using force when they clearly show them using force. And I love the way New Orleans officials are now saying they never issued any orders to confiscate firearms. If that's the case, this news clip is evidence of crimes being committed under color of authority.
But it is a new twist: I was only following orders that were never given.

Not only did the Nazis at Nuremberg justify their hideous crimes by saying that they were only following orders, they repeatedly stated that they had done no wrong because they WERE OBEYING THE LAWS OF THE REICH. In their eyes, what they did was legitimate because they did it with the blessing of the state. Which is why the leftists in this country can achieve any aim they have including absolute gun control. If the law says they can, then they have official sanction. If the law says they can't and they do it any way, they'll simply say they were persuing morality based on "higher law". Which is why there are so many immoral laws and immoral lawmakers. Our enemies prefer the color of law, just as the Nazis did.
Let's borrow a page from our opposition. How about this idea. Every person that ordered firearms to be illegally seized, or those that seized them "while just following orders" should be sued in civil court. Court costs, hiring a lwayer and a possible rulings against them could add up to a nice incentive for them to obey the law next time.
Dave has the only idea that will work, actually. Simply put the selective enforcement of the law is what leads our politicians and LEO's to break the law with confidence that there will be no criminal law ramifications and in many venues they are immunized personally, shielded by their organization.
I tried explaining to a state trooper once that if things continue the way they are the public would be left with only two choices, slavery or use of lethal force as there was nowhere for them to go to receive justice against members of the politically connected and/or their public funded private security forces ( the police). He didn't seem able to grasp that he was doing anything wrong by covering for his less honorable co-workers. Until I mentioned he had a 17 year-old daughter. Would he cover for a trooper that tried to coerce her into supplying sexual favors to avoid a number of made up charges?
He said,"I'd kill him." Nice. So next I asked him " Why?". He looked at me like I was crazy. I said you would cover for him if I came with complaints that he tried it with my daughter. You would provide at least enough cover for him that the complaint would be considered unwarranted. He and several others had done just that, thankfully, my daughters weren't involved in it, because I would kill the s.o.b. too.
Then I reiterated that the young lady it happened to, and her family now know that if it were to happen again, the only justice they will get will come from the barrel of their own weapons.
You could see the light turn on in his head. Don't know if he kept it on, but for a little while he understood, if not the evil of selective enforcement, at least the danger of it to himself.
Prosecuting attorneys rely on policing agencies, ergo they are loath to irritate them. Policing agencies foster an "us against them" mentality. They have a tendency to forget they are part of the community too. They hold themselves apart. It is rare for a leo to have non-leo friends. So, over time they become insulated from and in their mind superior to the rest of the community. Couple that with their incorrect belief that their job is much more dangerous than it is, and you have a situation ripe for abuse.
