This Could Have Been a Win-Win Situation

Calgary police Chief Jack Beaton says he wants to work with the city's firing ranges to devise a strict registry that would require every user to provide information and photo ID.

"We don't want gang members improving their shot," said Beaton.

Why not? Maybe then they'll start taking each other out instead of all those innocents they hit with stray shots.

... win win in what way? This is all bad. Criminals have connections, they can get fake ID, and can totally abuse the registry. All this does is provide a registry of the CITIZENS who use the range.

Then again it is Canada, and they are more like subjects than citizens, so go figure.

Win-win if the cops had stayed out of it. If gangbangers are going to kill each other, we win. If they are more accurate and don't kill as many innocent bystanders, we win.
