Just so we don't cast aspersions on individuals and the choices they make. We wouldn't want to be insensitive to anyone's self-esteem...

Well... garbage in, garbage out. Not that it is to blame, but it certainly doesn't help them any.
I've told my sons that people die in these "gangsta down" situations from stupidity. Which of course is knowing the right thing to do,and then doing something else. Know who I blame? The anti-gunners.If society were normalized to carry at will, concealed or not, there would not be any romantic or other attachment to guns. But since they insist on marginalizing as much as possible the use of the most effective tool for crime prevention, they create it anew as something forbidden,which easily turns into something sought after by the very ones who should not, the untrained, the unready, the inexperienced.
