Trouble in Paradise: One Board Member's Response

I got one email back regarding my reply to the Board regarding cougar sightings at R-Ranch in the Sequoias and the Board's new "(No) Firearms" policy:

David,

Your response to Norma was apparently forwarded only to the board.

I was the only nay vote on the board for this rule, and even an owner who doesn't support guns believed this unenforceable, and said so.

Mel was instructed to include all my comments as to why I was going to vote against this rule.

She chose not to do so on the draft that was published.

This is some of what I said, it doesn't cover all the points:

1. A rule should be in response to multiple violations or infractions, not based on a signal incident.

2. That the rule should be enforceable. This rule may provoke owners to become "policemen".

"Susan spoke against the proposed rule, noting that the Ranch has successfully managed without this rule for over 15 years. Susan further said that rules should be implemented for multiple violations and enforceable; this rule was based on one incident, handled peaceably by the Sheriff, it will be difficult to enforce, and could create further division between owne

Miss Mel has shown the way. First order of business, remove the board. Start with Mel. She obviously thinks the rules are not for her.

Even when those of her ilk win the vote, they feel a need to silence principle. Make it personal and go get them.

However as an owner your rights in the property cannot be rescinded or altered by conditions you didn't agree to when purchasing. Hopefully legal help is available to make this violation of your rights expensive for them.

You should probably put them on notice that any harm accruing to anyone because of their enforcement of this rule with be to their liability and you will make yourself available to any plaintiff so injured if they should sue to verify that they had every reason to anticipate such, as you, yourself, had informed them in writing. Then make sure they sign for the letter of which you keep a copy.
