And now residents are wondering if there are enough law enforcement officers in their rural community to keep them safe...

Too bad no one can come up with a way they could help the police.
I don't know, maybe something like some of the 'good' citizens carrying guns themselves. Not too many, just a few here and there so the bad guys never know where or when they might run into someone able to resist their attacks.

KC Steve, you are absolutely correct that never works except where it is tried. That's the only time. Why would anyone want to chance that?
