Imaginary Gun Violence on Rise in Maine

State officials say there have been 19 bank robberies this year, more than any year in recent memory. They also say in almost all of them, the robbers showed a gun or claimed they had one.
The answer is obvious. Maine banks need to modify their "No Guns Allowed" signs to include theoretical ones.

Too late. Possession of an imaginary gun shall soon be a felony. We have already expelled children from school for having index fingers.

Imprisonment of adults for imaginary guns is already on the agenda. At least, that's my bet.

I live in the southern Maine area and there has recently been some armed robberies in both southern Maine and in southern New Hampshire. I don't know that very many of the suspects have been caught, but my guess is that if they are ever able to catch a couple of them and put them in jail for a very, very long time, or if a couple of the robbers get shot you will see a dramatic decrease in these occurences.

My guess is that most of those committing these robberies are drug users and are therefor forbidden by federal law to possess firearms, but that doesn't seem to stop them, nor does the law against armed robbery.

I also would not be very surprised if many of those committing these crimes are not original residents of either Maine or New Hampshire. In fact, I am going to start blaming Mayor Menino of Boston and the state of Massachusetts for not doing enough to keep their criminals in jail and not doing enough to prevent their importation to my state.

Maine and New Hampshire have a relatively low rate of crime and a high rate of firearm ownership. We in Maine intend to keep it that way and we are not going to allow the anti-gunners to turn this issue around on law-abiding gun owners. Put the criminals in jail and allow the citizens to defend themselves and this issue will go away.
