I guess I can understand how that could make a guy rather annoyed.
Another point--if Lepcha's story is true, then five guys without firearms tried to rape the one guy there who did have one. I realize that hindsight (there's a joke there, but it's probably best left alone) is 20/20, but that just doesn't sound like a recipe for success.
Assuming the truth of this story, he had every right to gun those bastards down! He didn't go mad; that was just puinishment for a crime so hideous.

Even if his allegations are true, he should be glad it didn't happen here. He would be on trial here for "hate crimes" as a homophobe.
I have to say I doubt his story. If he was the only armed man in the group, he may have had to shoot one of them to show his intentions were serious, but the others would certainly have desisted at that point. We have to wonder who the hopeful sodomizers really was and if perhaps he decided to kill the unwilling to eliminate witnesses.
