Good one, because it is believable. I wouldn't be surprised if it really happened.
I'm such a sucker--I bought that one hook, line, and sinker (or perhaps lock, stock, and barrel would be more appropriate).
By the way, saying that the pistol was found in his purse was a nice touch.
