One Nation, Under Gun

From Wolfesblog:
AMAZING. Newsweek has published a photo essay of gun owners and they are all normal people. No demonizing, no snide remarks, just photos of average people who take personal responsibility for protecting themselves and their families.

That was a beautiful photo essay.

The little frightful guy with his gun in a bucket was hilarious.

Before we rush to pat NBC/Newsweek on the back, their site also has this:
Header:
Officials blame more violent criminals with deadlier guns after lapse of ban.
Subheader:
Lapse of assault weapons ban cited.

Local and federal law enforcement officials told NBC News that criminals were more likely to use high-powered semiautomatic pistols and handguns today.

As if this 40 year old trend is now, all of a sudden, a surprise.

The study did not examine how many of the police officers killed this year were shot with weapons that were legalized three years ago, but the study and figures compiled by the federal Bureau of Justice Statistics suggest a statistical correlation.

So, the "study" never actually "studied" the very weapons that headlines said that the "study" was all about.

And for the information of the "Authorized Journalists" who compiled this drivel, statistics don't suggest anything. Only agenda-driven statiticians make suggestions, which are blithely passed along by math-impaired Authorized Journalists without critical analysis, because they are incapable of any kind of analysis. If they actually knew anything, they would understand that a "statistical correlation" is nothing more than a data point of interest, and NEVER signifies causality.

I thoroughly enjoyed the photo essay, and thanks for sharing it on the blog. Just average people, who happen to own guns. Surprising from a mainstream media outlet. Unbiased and fair reporting for a change. Yeah the "bucket guy" was a bit wierd, but at least it didn't include the "crazy guy" waiting for "the gubmint" to come and get him. Granted, he may not be crazy, but it looks that way.
