This Day in History: November 4

Peter Buise, under sentence of death for desertion, is further reprieved 'till Wednesday.

Intrigued by this solitary entry, I did some checking around. From the scant information available, I found the hapless Buise ultimately met a deserter's fate, reconfirming Washington's opinion about relying on the militia and "The few, therefore, who act upon Principles of disinterestedness."

I gotta say, with the rampant apathy I see while things are easy, I don't have a lot of confidence in either the involvement or the staying power of most gun owners should more serious and demanding commitments be required. And if I don't see it, I doubt those arrogantly rubbing mandates in our faces see it, either.
