We're the Only Ones Reconciled Enough?

More than 10 months after being arrested and seven months after a change of venue, a Lockney justice of the peace faces trial beginning today in Randall County for attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon in the shooting of her husband...

McPherson said Michelle Araujo, 33 at the time of the shooting, and Romeo Araujo, then 39, remain married. Romeo Araujo filed for divorce but withdrew the petition, McPherson said.
If I were to do any speculating, I'd be looking into the legal and financial advantages of remaining married under these circumstances, as opposed to undying love. I can't help but wonder if "mitigating" testimony he could now volunteer would diminish the charges--and, undying love notwithstanding, what other incentives there might be for him to do so...

Or, it could just be I'm cynical, and she really is the "Only One" for him...

I don't believe in divorce, but I also don't believe in dying because your wife can't control her emotions either. This "lady" is bad news all the way around. Even if her husband "helps her out," how does he know that she won't do it again the next time they get into an argument.

Sounds to me like it is much more likely to be "dying" love, as in "shot dead" next time. Personally, I don't see any financial or legal advantages to being married to that kind of felon.

Maybe he is like a moth next to a flame?

Well, the guy is a serial philanderer with younger women, so I doubt it's because he luvs Judge Wifey so much. BUT if they're not divorced and he tells the court she may have mistakenly thought she was in danger when she shot him, that will be that much less of their joint assets used up in legal defense fees to divvy up when they DO divorce.

So maybe he's more like a moth next to a bank account, a house, some stocks, other joint assets...

From what I understand of this, all the assets except the liquer store were in his dad's name. The other assets are quite extensive including the house and lots of farm land. If Romeo testifies in her behalf and gets her aquited with the understanding that she will be a "good" wife, remain home and be a good mother to his kids, then he can keep all of his many young girlfriends with impunity. You've got to understand their culture. I saw an incidence almost like this on the TV show "Cheaters". Once the philandering Dallas, TX. husband pointed out to the wife and the oldest daughter (attending an expensive college) that he was providing the good life for them, that if the wife pursued the matter, then they would be left to their own means of support. The TV cheater avowed that he worked hard and deserved his young girlfriends. The TV wife & daughter resigned right then and there that their material things were worth more than complaining about dad's cheating. Romeo's wife likes her material things too!!!! Again, you just have to understand the culture. Then it all becomes plain as mud.
