At the Request of the Bush Administration...

Here I go grousing about what ought to be looked at as incremental progress. What an ingrate.

But I'm not even going to focus on how they could--if they wanted to--make the goal one of enforcing the Second Amendment in National Parks regardless of state law...that's not the purpose of this post.

Look at the great care taken to credit the Bush administration. See? Republicans--now matter how much they betray us--are different from democrats. They give us scraps and crumbs. And we can then tell each other how large the portions are, and how delicious they taste.

Forget the guy just sent in his solicitor general to sabotage Heller. This is the counterbalance, and makes it all better.

We're allowing ourselves to get sucked into political bipolar madness here, hell, many of us want to be deceived. So we have the depressed low with Paul Clement's brief, but now, rejoice, a cause for manic high!

Now go out there and vote McCain! Before it wears off.

It seems that one could make the case that by exhibiting that kind of behavior, we are demonstrating that we are "mentally defective"--all of us, and therefore ineligible for gun ownership.

I was being intentionally generous with the "we" as a generic reference for gun owners--in fact, some of us are not moved by this.

Matter of fact, if you agree with me, prepare to be painted as all kinds of things except being rational.

With increased vitriol as November approaches, and increased blame thereafter.

Sticks and stones, David--if they ever get as creative with their insults as some of my drill sergeants were, I'll be quite surprised--and still not especially troubled.

"These Americans! You can spit in their face and they call it dew!"
Nikita Khrushchev

What is the definition of insanity? Isn't it the denial of reality?

Some folks need to realize this really is spit they are wiping off.

What was it John Wayne said?

"I won't be wronged, I won't be lied to, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid hands on."

Good words. I returned my last Republican Party fundraising letter sans funds, with those words scrawled on the back. They describe exactly why I am no longer an NRA supporter or a Republican party member.

I've decided with regret that David is right. The Republican party is dead beyond resurrection. Trying to get true conservatives, libertarians, and gun owners to work together is like trying to herd cats and bulldogs together. I've tried to help support and reorganize my local gun club, and attempted to support my now-defunct Arkansas Rifle & Pistol Ass'n, and nothing works.

No one wants to fight when the battle is easy, and victory assured.

So now, I quietly collect food, water, guns & ammunition, survival supplies, and trade goods, hoping against hope that I won't have to use the stuff, but knowing that I very well may, and my sons probably will.

When the Thugee come for me, I know I've lived a good life, and it's always a good day to die.

"Ihr verfluchten Racker, wollt ihr denn ewig leben?"

Frederick the Great to his fleeing Prussian troops at the Battle of Kolin in 1757.

(roughly: "You damned bastards, do you want to live forever?")

I'd rather "cain McVote" than "Vote McCain".

If the administration were not trying to screw us on HELLER, carry in parks (or anywhere else) would not be an issue
