Jericho

Gray Anderson, the Mayor of Jericho, is at a 'constitutional convention' for the Allied States of America. He's chatting in an elevator with another delegate. The delegate says there was a 20 minute orientation, an hour round table discussion, a two hour lunch, a 1000 member 'town hall' meeting and boom, no more Second Amendment. Gray says that it would be easier to 'pacify' the country if the people can't shoot back'. WOW! This has NEVER been stated on any other show so bluntly. Let me tell you about Jericho.
I've been pretty hard on TV lately, but make no secret that I watch it myself and enjoy it--when I can find the time. Like anything else, I think it's up to the individual to decide whether they are in control of things or whether things control them.

I've heard of "Jericho" but never found the time to sit down and watch it. MikeH inspires me to give it a try.

I've never watched it before. I'm more of a history/discovery/outdoor channel guy. I was talking to my sister yesterday & she was expaining the gist of the show. At some point she uttered the phrase "Texas Embassy" & my interest was piqued. :)

I may have to find the DVD's on Amazon.

I have never watched it. People I know of who do watch it have laughed at the "survival" techniques demonstrated on the show. They feel that if you follow their example, there will be a lot fewer people to deal with after TSHTF.

I thought it was a pretty good show. I just got into it about 2 weeks ago, and downloaded season 1 on itunes, and watched season 2 online at cbs.com. Some of the show is ultra cheesy, but I found a lot of it to be pretty good. I would recommend it definitely.

Unfortunately, after a very popular first season the show was canceled by CBS. After a massive protest by fans, the infamous "nuts" campaign, it was brought back for an abreviated seven episode second season. Given the limited budget, lack of sufficient episodes to develop story arcs, and placement late on Tuesday evenings, the second season failed to produce sufficient viewers to justify a third season. IMHO CBS executives wanted to be proven right more than they wanted the show to succeed.
First season is being reaired on the SciFi channel and I am sure the second season will come out on DVD before too long. There is some talk that one of the cable channels might pick the show up and continue development, but chances are slim at best.

There is loads of nitpicking that can be done. My personal favorite would suggest that there are women who stockpile makeup in largely the same way someone might stockpile MREs and ammo. Profligate use of batteries months after the attack is another.

And to refer to your posting, I too was completely blown away (well, in a manner of speaking) to hear the remark about 'shooting back' especially from the Gray Anderson charachter. There wasn't any real nuts-and-bolts survival or readapting of 19th century technology to speak of, more of modern tech put on hold rather than anything else.
However the main theme, that of Americans banding together and governing themselves without any real need of outside supervision no matter the situation kept me coming back to the TV every week. That this message emanated from Hollyweird simply added to my enjoyment.

Well, that was season 1.

Season 2 swung hard-Hollyweird is the best I can describe it. Everything is the fault of Evile(tm) corporation + shadowy government figures.

And the military is probably making things worse, to boot.

And they wonder why ratings tanked...

David, Jericho is the best thing on television, I say is because there is a campaign to convince the SciFi Channel to pick it up as Season one is currently begining a run there. Those statements made by Gray and the stands made by the people prove the absolute worth, necessity, and purpose of the Right of the People to Keep and Bear Arms! This show deserves a home on televisoin and the gun community's whole hearted support.

I strongly urge all of you to go back and watch the entire run of exsisting episodes. If we band together and call, email, and otherwise contact not only the SciFi channel but Sprint (the shows major underwriter) as well we have a good chance at keeping the freedom message on the air for others to discover. Pleas, go back and take a second look, thank you. J.B.

Season 2 brought back memories of the book "Molon Labe" (read that) and in other sections of all that made Texas great.

No David. "Hard on TV" is a 12 Ga. w/buckshot at 20 ft.

Guess.

Steve is right. The show took a hard left turn in its second season. Was very disappointing. I kept watching but it was obvious the writers couldn't stomach rugged self reliance. RIP Jericho.

Watching the first season of Jericho at CBS.com was great. I was glad we could watch several eps a night, rather than having to wait a week in between.
A great concept I loved, but it got watered down so the mainstream USA public could swallow it.
Examples: NOBODY in Kansas has anything but a bolt action rifle or pump 12ga shotgun. And they don't know how to use them.
NOBODY in old turn-of-the-century Kansas houses has a root cellar or does their own canning.
The ONE Gas station in town is the ONLY place for gasoline. Well, that and the Richmon farm.
A schoolteacher has NO IDEA how to build a solar collector to heat the inside of a freezing house.

For me, Jericho truly died with Johnston Greene. RIP
