With candy sales banned on school campuses, sugar pushers are the latest trend at local schools. Backpacks are filled with Snickers and Twinkees for all sweet tooths willing to pay the price.

Boy, there's the golden example of critical thinking. The article opens stating that candy sales are "banned", then goes on to explain that business is booming. I guess- I guess we could say that they're... not banned?
I'm thinking about writing an updated version of the Invisible Man. Basically what he does is get the legislature to pass a law that says he's invisible, and everyone believes it for all eternity.
Since then, schools have slowly adjusted by offering more healthy alternatives, such as baked chips and granola bars.
Even if one was to concede that this is appropriate activity on the government's part (which I do _not_), their "solution" does not accomplish their stated objective; current research says a carbohydrate is a carbohydrate is a carbohydrate*. The body will treat all of them the same; doesn't matter if it is sugar or something more "complex".
*digestible; fiber doesn't count

Gee whiz, thats just banning...uhm..Marijuana! It seems that anytime the government wants to play the role of stern parent, the American Citizen is ready to sneak out at night.
