And here's the "duh" moment: "Two-thirds of all ... U.S. murders," he claims, "were accomplished with firearms."That's funny. I don't see what fraction of the murders took place in urban areas where the lawful keeping and bearing of firearms is restricted.

Maybe if they could tell us what fraction of the victims brandished a gun in response to an attack, or returned fire, we could draw some conclusions that would lead us to another "'duh' moment," particularly if such instances were rare.

The "Duh Moment" is that the world's most advanced species prefer weapons for their misdeeds, because it involves less work -- whether those weapons are a 500-year-old technology, or something that dates before written history, such as the knife. That pretty much explains every other technological advancement as well. Do I have this right?
Perhaps that is why when an arsonist is faced with the choices of waiting for lightning to ignite a dry branch, rubbing two sticks together, or using a cigarette lighter, he'll choose the latter. Am I still on the right track?
Removing the flaws from the human mind didn't quite work out as planned. I'm not exactly sure why the idea to remove the knowledge of firearms from the minds of billions of humans remains plausible. Perhaps the disarmers just need recognition. Considering the bulk of their work, a Hugo Award is in order. They may be open to rational discussion if they no longer feel under-appreciated.
