In other words, rather than telling gun makers what to do, performance-based regulation would tell them what outcome they must achieve: Reduce deaths by guns. Companies that achieve the target outcomes might receive large financial bonuses; companies that don't would face severe financial penalties. Put simply, gun makers -- whose products kill even when used as directed -- would have to take responsibility for curbing the consequent public health toll.Because carbon offset credits work so well for the environment and indulgences so well for the soul.
Say, would you mind stepping up on this crate and putting this rope around your neck? If you do mind, we'll force the issue, and stump for it under the banner of "common sense gun regulation."

Yeah, that'll happen. More likely they'll back some collectivist "community leader" who will demand the money be turned over to them--for "youth programs," you understand...

Carbon credits and a "gunhomicides" tax; it's an apt comparison. Firearms manufacturers have about as much control over criminals as consumers have over climate change.
there's ALREADY a tax on firearms and ammunition sales. who are these people?

Everything between here and there is just reluctance to get to the business at hand. Both sides are reluctant, however for different reasons. Ours believes in the sanctity of life and liberty and are therefore reluctant to harm anyone.
Theirs believes in power for themselves at no risk. Therefore, the potential for great harm to be visited upon them makes them reluctant.
Due to the nature of our opponents, however, force is the only thing that will utlimately settle issue.

I and my gin have prevented x number of crimes, making x number of police responses unnecessary. How about a CREDIT?
