“I think the bond is way too high,” Smith said. “I didn't mean for any innocent people to get hurt.”That's quite some apology for shooting three people there, genius. What did you think would happen to them?
The college website's search feature isn't working right now, so I can't tell if they have any policies guaranteed to stop such incidents before they happen...

David,
I live not 5 miles from S Mtn Comm College where this happened.
The reports indicate tht the shooter had been previously (3 mos ago) severerly beaten (broken jaw) by the victim (and evidently 2 others).
I'm un-sure whether the shooter was in the class room and the "victim" (previously the predator) came to the classroom (the "victim"/predator also evidently has a restraining order against him approaching the shooter).
The shooter/(previous victim) may have been acting in self-defense, though he obviously didn't do a very good job.
I think there is a lot more to this story. The shooter has no record (except of being beaten severely) and the "victim" has a record. Determining who approached whom or who was in the classroom first or legally may go a long ways to determining if there is a self-defense angle here.
Obviously at the very best he wounded 2 innocent people (the girl is the daughter of an employee at my wife's school district - she knows the man).
But it may also demonstrate that when one feels that society won't protect them, and when people react to that reality, unintended consequences may happen.

I read some more about this on keepandbeararms.com. This looks like it should have been nothing more than self defense once the shooter got hit in the face...up until he pulled the trigger on the assaulter hiding under the table.
sad case.
The safety web site for the particular college in question is still down. However, it is a part of the Maricopa Community College District, and the supporting web site http://www.maricopa.edu/legal/cs/safetysites.htm links to all the other college's safety site. From the site for Scottsdale Community College: Weapons: The possession or use of a firearm on campus is strictly forbidden. The Maricopa Community College District Governing Board promulgated the weapons policy under ARS 13-2911 C. Anyone violating the policy is subject to arrest under ARS 13-2911 and is subject to applicable college disciplinary procedures. Because SCC is located on the Salt-River Pima- Maricopa Indian Community, weapons possession is also prohibited by Federal law.
So, It's not a far leap to surmise that this incident was "unpossible", since the RULES specifically bar possession of a firearm on any Maricopa County College District campus.
Let's hear it for unarmed victim zones!

Well, I think they should let him go if he just says he was well within neighborhood policy.
