American comedian Jerry Lewis has been held by police after an unloaded gun was found in his hand-luggage at the main airport in Las Vegas.
If it was a prop, why do the cops say it was registered?
Per this account:
Lewis's manager, Claudia Marghilano, said the handgun was a hollowed-out prop gun that Lewis sometimes twirls during his show.
We shall see...

My guess is that as some variant of prop/blank firing gun. It is not clear to people attempting to use the law as opposed to common sense, how to handle it.
why would a prop be hollowed-out instead of cast solid?
all realistic "prop" training guns that i have ever seen are a solid piece of rubber or wood.
if you wanted to turn a junk gun into a prop gun, you'd do what the navy does with its training M16s -- fill them in with cement. he's an entertainer; he can act like it's nice and light.
