My feel is, the boy could no doubt take 'em.
On a positive note, if the Zargonians are resorting to psy-ops instead of direct engagement, it means we've got 'em on the run.

There is a point to be made regarding the death threat mentioned in the article. I'll avoid it.
I will make a point of the fact that some environmentalists are hurting their own cause; so much for the hypothesis that only the "meat-eaters" are the violent ones.
I don't see similar outcry when someone hacks down a Chinese Empress-plant. Why not? Both those and the feral hogs are invasive species not native to North America. They were both purposefully introduced by man, so man is liable for the damage they cause. The hogs are growing to record sizes because they are out-competing native species for food, and are apparently avoiding natural predation.
I don't understand the thinking of the regressive / preservationist branch of the environmental movement. They want remove the presumably corrupted influence of man, yet they preserve things as they are. In my state, we have environmentalists pressuring wetlands commissions to preserve waterways that were created by man. They complain about the decline of certain species, but completely miss the fact that the species' previous success was due to an overabundance of food--just sitting there for the taking on the hundreds of farms that used to dot the state. Where those farms once stood, there were old forests that had been clearcut.
I do agree with Ms. Shearer on one point: I'd use a .375 H&H on this hog, at a minimum. Maybe a .45-70 loaded hot. But I will also cut the kid a break, since he was only eleven.
The envirowackos are upset because the kid chopped one that looks a lot like them. I say damned fine job. It's a PIG. I once had to shoot a man SEVEN times to get him to stop. But that's the way machine guns work. Anybody don't like it can squeal like a pig, cause I'd do it again,right now.
Given the fact that the Kid was shooting an evil .50 cal pistol, it's a miracle that no airliners were brought down too.
Also, is it just me or does threatening someone who successfully shoots a 1000 lb hog seem like a bad idea?
The amazing ignorance of these people coupled with their willingness to threaten death on an 11 year-old is stunning.
First they know nothing about pigs. Even domesticated, farm raised, hand fed pigs are deadly dangerous. Everyone who has ever raised them can attest to that. I raised them and paid my way through high school, doing so, so I know whereof I speak. They will often eat their own newborn.
Even hogs that come up to be petted will tear through an abdomen on a human and eat his internal organs in just a few seconds if that human should lose his feet while accessible to the pig.
A pig domestically raised will revert to the wild in a very short time when released. They will have all the feral and survival instincts of any other wild pig. Arkansas razorback, anyone? All descended from escaped or released farm animals. Became just as deadly wild in the first generation as their posterity is today.
A pig never quits growing throughout its entire life, so long as there is adequate food to sustain growth. Therefore there was nothing special about this animal that should elevate it to "untouchable" status.
The ignorance of these people, evidently is an encouragement and an abettor of their viciousness. I bet none of those death threaters left their names and addresses. So, not only are they ignorant of the issue, and viciously violent towards a small boy, they are also cowardly.
There should be a hunting season on them. No trophies, no pictures, no Boone and Crockett points, just vermin eradication.
I can envision a scenario where a father hires an expert to crack identities of vicious emailers. You can guess the rest.
If you want to drop a line to the family and let them know you support them and not the IDIOTS in NYFC and around the whining world (I already did), they have the domain Monsterpig.com, and there’s an email address listed for people to send pics of their hunts (which they apparently have if you look at their page).
They replied to my message and thanked me for supporting them (from California), so they DO check their web email.

When I was 14 I made the mistake of not being careful enough around a 500 lb. breed boar. I received a 4 inch long cut that was cleaner than a razor and almost completely through my calf. Never felt anything other than a light touch.
Hogs (pigs) are very dangerous animals that don't care what they eat. The 500 lb. hog was slightly over waist high on me. I can't imagine what a 1000 lb. hog looks like up close. (I've been to their website, but pictures really don't convey the reality of large objects and animals.)
Taking it with a .50 cal. hunting pistol takes quite a bit of nerve. I sure wouldn't want to see the results if you fail to put it down.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't hear any of these agonizers

There *is* no reasoning with them, TGH either bc they cannot think, or their "scale of values" has become totally inverted, or they know what they want and consistency matters nothing to them.

I shoot 'em all the time but have never seen anything close to this new version of Hogzilla. Was envious when the boy did the deed, but proud in a way, too. Here it's open-season on them 24/7/365. The hogs. We're working on an open season for the greenies but no luck yet.
More then likely the one making the threats are ARA’s (animal rights activists) long known for their use of violence, threats, and terror tactics against animal researchers, fur farmers, trappers, hunters and anything to do with animals.
I think the kid deserves a big round of applause for taking a record hog and if I find a single ARA making a threat toward the kid, they will regret it to the lost of their breath. ARA’s are generally cowards and for the most part will not confront anyone up front nor alone, they work on groups because they think it gives them power.

I've thought about this a bit since I posted, and I'd like to retract the above statement. Sixteen shots sounds like a lot, but how many shots does it typically take to kill a 1,000 hog? I'm sure there aren't a whole lot of statistics on the subject. The weapon would certainly be suitable for a 400 pound hog. A kill is certainly more humane than a maiming.
Second, I reviewed the testimony from Stone, the articles and the corrections. This pig was feral but not wild; it was on a hunting preserve. It was also too large to breed, to tough to eat, and too aggressive to approach.
