I then stepped out of my car while placing myself in a ready position (weaver stance, car between the two of us, hand on side arm ready to draw.) He also got out of his vehicle and started moving towards me while gesturing with his gun. This is a fascinating thread, complete with corroborating links to police and news reports.
More than anything, it shows the peaceable nature of a gun owner, and how being armed actually kept violence from happening. That the press noticed creates a wonderful opportunity for gun owners to write letters to the editor and emphasize that point.

When you rely on the System to protect you, you've already lost.
Such an incident wouldn't convince me to apply for a concealed carry permit, but it would convince me of the need for a concealed handgun, any time, any place.
Bothers me that the police felt the need to hold the writer's gun until he left.
A cop would have dusted the guy and never seen the inside of a courtroom. A realistic BB gun is enough reason. The writer's life would probably have been ruined if he had shot. But at least he and friends would have been alive.
The aggressor sounded like he was asking to be suicided anyway. Another one left loose by The System. What will he do next time he's out? That it was only a BB gun doesn't make him less of a threat; it's not the weapon, but the mindset of the person holding it. His truck could have been used as a weapon.
