Why Guns Don't Belong in National Parks

Officials at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park say a black bear mauled an 8-year-old Florida boy and the boy's father was injured while defending him.
Besides, "Only Ones" arrived long after the danger was over to make things right with their guns, so what's the problem?

So listen to the Retired Para...uh...Park Rangers and accept the fact-backed-by-force that, as long as we allow outselves to be ruled by the help, green blood will trump red.

Tragic and shameful at the same time.

You are responsible for your own security and do not let anyone tell you otherwise. Even the Supreme Court states that self-defense is our own responsibility, because the Cop's/Ranger's job is to catch the bad guy/bear after he hurts or kills you.

So, do not let the bad guy hurt you by taking responsibility for your own safety! If that means that you must carry a gun to protect yourself, then by all means carry a gun.

If only the Nation could be sued for allowing the bear attack on the father and son, you would see them handing out guns at the park entrance!

Sticks and stones against a bear? Insane!

There is a long time resident mountain lion where I live - I've seen his tracks and scat in my yard a number of times - and there are both bears and wolves in the hills not too far away.

Several big cats, and a few bears cause trouble each year, and once in a while people are killed or seriously injured - but that's usually when they are unarmed and unaware!! OR, in areas where the animals are "protected" and self defense is not "permitted." How insane is that?

I don't go into those areas, and I don't leave the house without my .45 strapped to my belt.

Why anyone would go into an area like that unarmed ("allowed" or not), especially with a child, is a mystery to me.

I'm feeling less inclined to go anywhere that FedGov has life-and-death rule over me, but that's pretty much everywhere now, so...

If I DO go to one of the People's Parks, I WILL be armed. Mountain lion, bear, ranger... a threat is a threat.
Last time I WAS in a NatPark, I was impressed with the rangers at the gate. Very good at working the cash register and handing out receipts for the "user fee."
It'll probably be a long time before I go back.

Why the Hell weren't the rangers restricted to the use of sticks and rocks when they tracked down the bear?

Oh, wait a minute, I got it. They are inferior to the average father, but claim superiority so they don't have to deal with the same risks they force on others. Nice scam.

As an old guy once said to me,

"when they legalize carry in the parks, what will that change? I'll (him speaking) will still be carrying the same gun I've carried there for years."
