Spurred by fear of a violent attack or because they’ve survived one, more Washingtonians are getting a concealed pistol license. License-holders jumped from about 179,000 to 258,000, 43 percent, between 2003 and 2007.Does somebody want to tell this idiot the people have spoken?
Now if we can just start working on this "license" trap everybody seems so enamored of entering...

"license trap" is exactly accurate. It is a dual function trap. First function it performs is at the least a partial registry of guns and their owners. Thus making confiscation easier as soon as they think they can get away with it.
Second function is to gradually inculcate the people to believing permission from the state to exercise a right is proper. Thus actually turning the right to a privilege. That changes ownership of the right from the people to the state and places its implementation, restriction or denial entirely at the whim of the state. Hence, de facto repeal of the second amendment.
Pragmatists being what they are, seem to be ok with it. No free man would be. Some do register and ask permission while fighting to abolish the infringement. They are trying to not let the enemy choose the ground upon which to do battle by being found in violation of illegal law and hence effectively rendered mute in the debate.
While I understand what the do and why, I think it will be harmful in the longer run, even if a bloodless victory comes our way. Simply because the data bases will already exist. And they won't be destroyed.
