Patricia Brant says, “It's just too close to home. I'm getting ready to have a grandbaby coming and it's scary.”
This changes everything for me. And we need to tell your inconsiderate neighbors to stop those preparations. If they shoot someone in self defense, it might wake up the grandbaby.

That fifteen yr.old mother-to-be should be more scared of the prospects for her child. The odds are against her and the child, but I will hope and pray for the best.

Sure, the sheep were hysterical over "guns", but the police quoted in the article couldn't have said it better. They aren't worried about the gun sales, only illegal guns. If you have a gun secure it from theft and learn how to use it.
I think Captain Phil Trent should get some kudos for being one of the few police officers quoted in the press who talks sensibly about guns in the hands of civilians.

I dunno, Anon@11:44--maybe you could explain to me what an "illegal gun" is. As the proud owner for several years of an "illegal gun" in defiance of the state of California, I have trouble giving kudos to such sentiments.
If we're talking "stolen guns," let's so identify them, and treat the thief accordingly. But if we're talking guns that are forbidden by government, and we know the supreme law of the land says "shall not be infringed," it seems to me what's illegal is any law making guns illegal. If we're talking "prohibited persons," aside from the fact that anyone who can't be trusted with a gun can't be trusted without a custodian, I've documented many cases of good people over the years who are so designated because they were caught out of compliance with one evil disarmament edict or another.
There are plenty of "Only Ones"-- who believe just like Capt. Trent-- that would have been more than happy to ruin my life, or the lives of gun owners in places like Chicago, citizens who have a terrible choice forced on them by those who would presume to be their masters: Obey us and disarm or be destroyed.

I plan on voting for Obama. And I'll tell you why; I want the revolution to happen when I can do something about it, I am tired of the incrementalism that has happened under GWB and would continue under McCain. This is in all respects, more government, less rights GRANTED (?!) to the people. But it all happens to slowly. A vote for McCain is a vote to have four more years of "mission creep" from the GOP. I want the drastic eye-opening horror to slap every soft (right) statist in the face. I want the higher tax rate, the socialized mediocre health care, I want the downturn in the economy to blow up into a recession, I want the ratcheting up of the class war. And I want it to happen now, not 4, 8, 12, 16 years from now when I will be that much older and less able to resist.
That's fine, Chris K, I advocate voting your informed conscience and understand your line of reasoning. Thing is, none of that has anything to do with this blog post. Please keep things on topic.
Yours would make a good comment on today's Examiner article though--it would fit right in with the subject. Why not post it over there?
