dcva: i not only doubt, but am certain i am more likely to be murdered by an nra member than being hit by a meteorite. This was a comment entered on one of my Gun Rights Examiner posts--the only one from an "anti" thus far in the time I've been writing there.
please find some facts before calling laws that keep guns out of the hands of criminals, domestic abusers, the dangerously mentally ill, and other people who shouldn't have access to them meaningless.

I wonder if he'll respond to my reply?

Your chances of being killed by an asteroid (a big meteorite) are a lot greater than many people, including this commenter, believe. It isn't so much that it is a common occurance, but that when it does happen, it kills a vast number. So, the genius is wrong on just so many levels it is probably pointless to try to communicate with him beyond rudimentary guestures and grunts.
dcva probably sits down to pee. Idiot!!
A meteorite is, by definition, tiny. AFAIK, there are something like 4 people in recorded time who have been hit by meteorites. The commenter is in fact correct, and would have continued to be correct if he had replaced "NRA member" with "police officer", "judge", "politician" or just about any other segment of the population. His odds of being killed by a meteorite are literally hundreds of billions to one.
Actually, "meteorite" is the object once it hits the ground, and the name does not indicate size at all. "Meteor" is the object in flight (the flaming streak); "-ite" means "rock".
The chances of him being murdered by any law abiding gun owner, let alone an NRA member is very slim....unless of course he is a burglar entering my home, than the chances go up exponentially.
You're absolutely wrong on two counts, nezumi.
First, as Kent indicated, a meteorite is any meteor that hits the Earth before vaporizing. It need not by definition be tiny.
And had you bothered to check the link I included, you'd have seen 14 people hit, not 4, and that has been in the last few hundred years. And unlike you, I included a source for that citation.
Furthermore, the criterion I stated not only in my column but also in my rebuttal was being HIT by a meteorite, not KILLED by one.
Anthony sez >>murdered ....unless of course he is a burglar entering my home, than the chances go up exponentially.

Not to split hairs but killing a burglar is not murder.
"please find some facts before calling laws that keep guns out of the hands of criminals, domestic abusers, the dangerously mentally ill, and other people who shouldn't have access to them meaningless."
The laws are meaningless as they keep legal firearms out of the hands' of legal owners, not out of the hands' of criminals.
