A Commonplace Spokesman

Gun ranges are a common place to commit suicide, he said. Harvey has had two suicides and one attempted suicide at his range in the 22 years he has owned it. [More]
Out of how many tens of thousands of visitors, Harvey? If you're going to act as a media spokesman, learn how to do it.

I anticipate efforts to close the Gun Range loophole so this tragedy never ever happens again in America.

And to be clear, I'm serious. Odds are, someone will popose just such a solution.

I don't go to gun ranges... too many "LEOs". It isn't safe.

Kent, How correct you are. I've been to the pistol range where the murder-suicide took place, and was "lasered" multiple times by a female police officer. The last time time she actually had her finger on the trigger, so I complained to the employees and left.

This story has been revised, and that paraphrase was removed. I know the reporter is just making sure that facts check out. The original story makes range owner Mr. Harvey seem practiced at giving that line.

Gun ranges are a common place to commit suicide. I wonder if it's a meme? Regardless, I checked. Florida, unfortunately, does not report to the National Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS), though methods used are not out of line with national stats, and the Sunshine State is in the middle of the list for suicide rates.

For those of you that are interested, the most common location to commit suicide (according the reporting states in NVDRS) is the home, at around 75 percent of the time. The next most common is "transport area", 4.65 percent of the time.
