Yesterday it was a Priority. Today it's a Red Herring

The Myth of 90 Percent: Only a Small Fraction of Guns in Mexico Come From U.S....

But
Tom Diaz, senior policy analyst at the Violence Policy Center, called the "90 percent" issue a red herring and said that it should not detract from the effort to stop gun trafficking into Mexico.[More]
Right. When you subversives make the claim, it's Gospel we need to make policy and enact new edicts for. But when it's proven to be a damned lie, all of a sudden exposing that lie is "a red herring."

Good Lord, these people have no shame.

Nice to see some "Authorized Journalist" confirmation for what some of us have been saying all along. Maxim Lott is John Lott's son.

I would say its fair to say that anyone who takes an oath to uphold the United States Constitution and lies to the American people to cheat them out of their Constitutional rights. Would be guilty of treason. Is there any other way to put it?
To say that they made a mistake will not cut it because if someone is attacking the Constitution on hear say won't cut it.

David,

This is an important entry on your web site.

In the fight for freedom, we arm ourselves with facts.

The enemy doesn't like that; when confronted, they get defensive and whine and attempt to change the subject.

But facts matter.

The creed of the Marxists is to lie, cheat, and steal their way into power. Consider this final statement from Diaz:

"Let's do what we can with what we know. We know that one hell of a lot of firearms come from the United States because our gun market is wide open."

"Wide open" -- despite the expensive federal NICS system? How does that hyperbolic claim make the FBI feel?

Pants on fire, Tom.

If their lips are moving ...

Politicians and bureaucrats (U.S. or Mexico) will and do lie to us when they’re trying to sell us an agenda they know we will find unacceptable if we (the public) know the real truth.

List of liars in this particular matter include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. BATF - William Hoover, assistant director for field operations and others
2. Hillary Clinton
3. Sen. Dianne Feinstein
4. CBS newsman Bob Schieffer
5. Auturo Sarukhan, the Mexican ambassador to the U.S.
6. U.S. Attorney Eric Holder
7. Washington Post columnist George Will
8. Sen. Richard J. Durban

“The exaggeration of United States "responsibility" for the lawlessness in Mexico extends even beyond the "90-percent" falsehood…” - It’s obvious that the Feds have lied to us about this matter. What can we believe? If their lips are moving, are they lying every time about everything, or just occasionally?

“But Tom Diaz, senior policy analyst at the Violence Policy Center, called the "90 percent" issue a red herring and said that it should not detract from the effort to stop gun trafficking into Mexico.” The Violence Policy Center gun grabbers apparently are still not willing to let go. These people still want us to accept a guilt trip for all of Mexico’s problems and Mexico is willing and eager to bleed us for all it can get.

David, I don't usually spam comments here with links to my blog, but in this case, I think it's the easiest way to demonstrate that Tom Diaz and Kirsten Rnad have disseminated that "red herring" to Congress.

This morning, W.LaJunesse (?) had a article about this on Fox national news. Specifically that guns that are 'traceable' to US are but a minority part of the weaponry taken from the cartel cowboys

Better late than never I guess.

Anon @ 3:19, check out the link to this post.

Kurt, you are welcome to post links any time your judgment tells you they are appropriate. Your stuff enriches this site, and I am grateful for it. Thanks for the kind mentions. I'm encouraged others are looking into this. And I really appreciate the way you traced this back to Diaz--I had the thought to look into it but got busy with other things, so you have saved me some work.

Per above post, I have often wondered if EVERY SINGLE news topic is as deliberately misleading/false as the issue of the role of guns in U.S. history and purpose in society, etc. From now on, whenever I type "mainstream media" it will be followed by an immediate "(AKA "THE MATRIX")".

And I'm probably STILL exaggerating less than them.

I actually agree with the VPC guy, for once. We should make efforts to stop gun trafficking into Mexico. That means enforcing current US law and has nothing to do with banning cosmetic features. I'm sure the VPC guy and I don't agree there, however.

Lies, damned lies and statistics! From the wikipedia:

"Lies, damned lies, and statistics" is part of a phrase attributed to Benjamin Disraeli and popularised in the United States by Mark Twain: "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." The statement refers to the persuasive power of numbers, the use of statistics to bolster weak arguments, and the tendency of people to disparage statistics that do not support their positions.

Since lying won't work anymore, what will they try next?

Just to prove that the truth doesn't matter, the senate passed a bill yesterday authorizing millions more $ specifically for weapons enforcement on the border.

Bitterly clinging to their lies and legislation.

It gets better: now, AG Holder himself is backing off from the "90%" figure, but basically parrots Diaz's "red herring" line:

Some question that figure, since not all seized weapons are traced, but when asked whether the figure is a myth, Mr. Holder replied that, regardless of the actual statistic, the vast majority of weapons, particularly the high-powered ones, are coming from the US and are aggravating the Mexican government’s efforts.

OK--we lied about the "90%," but that doesn't matter.

Jake (formerly Riposte3) said...

Holder may be backing off the 90% figure, but the AP is going the other direction. I just found this story up on Yahoo. The money quote?

The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives recently reported that up to 95 percent of guns seized at scenes of drug violence in Mexico can be traced to U.S. commercial sources.

"Our lie isn't working? Let's make it bigger!"

Bloody "Authorized Journalists."

Caught in lie # 121,956,893? I'm shocked. Really.

"Okay, so we were lying to you about that. But you can trust us when we say..."

For anyone who gives a rat's ass about facts, the gun-grabbers LONG AGO forfeited any claim to "good faith".

Are you my Luke, DT (Luke)? Yeah, if you are I know you're not mine, but for a friend I have never seen this is kind of a treat. Still stealing the use of your question, btw.
