Here's the mindset that seems to be lost on many that read such propaganda pawned off as news.
The folks in the main or lame stream news are hard core Darwinist baby killers who believe and worship Karl Marx. They will do anything to grow government even if it means decent citizens are disarmed and murdered by armed and violent criminals. What these violent criminals are is customers for one of the branches of government. In this case it would be the parasitic criminal justice system.
The bottom line is this: If a violent criminal is going to kill or badly injure you. Do not stop them because the government parasites need this warm body in their parasitic system for employment reasons. Look at it as your life is giving to serve a much more worthy cause, feeding a parasite.
You can't make this stuff up.
While I don't like the tone of the article or the headline, I do give them credit for explaining that a conceal carry permit is not needed while he was on his own property. Most wouldn't know that, and it is good they included that to increase the readers awareness of the world around them.
The perpetrator ran a hundred yards? Pard, you need a bigger gun.

Always confront them. The media live and die -- mostly die -- by public approval or disapproval. Now is an especially good ime to convice them to be open-minded because they're especially desperate.
7 discharges at what was probably less than 20 feet. I'd guess the scars on the door frame were from misses. And still the BG with the shotgun manages to make it 100 yards.
Reading this I feel the shop owner was fortunate that this appears to have been a one-sided gun battle. He's lucky the robber didn't return fire 'cause it appears that the robber had the means to.
This brings up some of the real liabilities of legal concealed carry - the balance between concealment and effectiveness.
Legal concealed carry is just a scrap from the table - and sometimes it's not enough for an honest person to protect their life and property.
Frankly I think that cities should take a clue from a Heinlein story and vote him a reward for helping clean up the city. He saved them the expense of prosecuting and jailing the cretin.
