Feeding the controversy over taxpayer costs for the Michael Jackson memorial, officials disclosed Wednesday the city paid nearly $50,000 for box lunches from an upscale market 80 miles north of Los Angeles for police who worked the event. [More]There's a responsible use of limited resources. Nothing but the best for Golden State "Only Ones." At a time when California is issuing IOUs.
Chief Bratton?
Next week as council members begin the difficult job of finalizing the budget I ask them to prioritize the dollars. The LAPD must be seen as an investment that pays substantial dividends. Fund what should be, and what council members have said in the past is their number one priority; public safety. If you find that hard to swallow, I guess we could always cut back on parole violator costs...although I gotta wonder how much they already spent putting the non-violent "offenders" through the system in the first place.
Hey, what th'...?
I asked for Brie on my croissant...

"Buying within the city would also give the city local sales tax revenue."
Please help me to understand how the city would benefit by collecting taxes on itself.
"Buying within the city [limits] would also give the city local sales tax revenue."
It's like this: local merchants give a percentage of their sales receipts to the municipality where they do business. If this were voluntary, it would be called "charity". If this is done under duress it is called "protection money" or "tax revenue" depending on who the recipient is. If you live in Anchorage, Alaska you may not be familiar with sales taxes.
I hope this helps.
MALTHUS
I wonder if the provider of the lunches will be paid with an IOU. Wonder if he'd agree to provide any more lunches? Want to bet? :)
Remember how the French nobility could not be forced to pay their bills? Shortly before the "revolution" they were having a darn hard time getting the tradesmen to provide anything at all. The armed goons went out and confiscated stuff until that too vanished.
You don't think....
Why are they being provided lunches?
Does your job give you a free lunch or are you expected to buy your own?
The cops KNEW they'd be there, they could have stashed some "rations for emergency personnel" that met federal standards (WTF?!) in their military surplus MOLLE gear before work. Gee, maybe they can send a bill to the feds since they set yet another unconstitutional standard that wastes money.
wv=mater, as in, hit the bastards with a rotten 'mater while they're in stocks.
