The tyranny of government [More]Dang! No sooner does Steven Lynes get a letter published in The Lompoc Record then they go and print another one!
Way cool.
We made a good dent in the comments section yesterday. Why not do a repeat today?
That idiot "Red" looks ripe for laughing at.

Ignorance abounds. Red brings up an interesting point about God and weapons, even though he was in error regarding the point he tried to make.
Many Christian friends of mine haven't spent much time thinking about arming themselves, and yet the Bible repeatedly condemns complacency and advocates personal responsibility.
Most critically, some ask the question "would Jesus carry an assault rifle or a handgun"? While I have no direct answer for that particular question, I find Luke 22:36 to be quite relevant:
Luke 22:36 (NIV) He said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.
A sword was the finest infantry weapon of the day during that time, so I see no reason not to translate that into Jesus comparatively asking his followers to take along two assault rifles for defense.
Impressive. I went over there to see how I could help, and concluded it had all been said already. The quality of the pro and con arguments tells the story in full, as it usually does. Any reachable fence-sitter is going to see that.
The discussion of natural rights is interesting; it certainly seems true that statists latch like an attack dog to any example of natural rights that relates the concept to a religion (here, "God-given rights") and turn it into a "religious zealotry" argument, which it's usually not. As someone who is somewhere in the ether of agnosticism and general spiritual mysticism, I generally like to find ways to avoid specific references that others can latch on to--a deliberate attempt to stay on target. I don't know whether this is useful or not in the end, but I can say that nobody seems to jump on me for being a religious nutcase just because I use the word "God".
An observation.
Where do these freaks come from??? Here is the most recent comment: "I do not feel safer because anyone can own and carry a weapon in public, without registration or knowledge of how to use a gun. I feel more in danger than ever. Guns most often kill innocent people, therefore I fail to see the wisdom of a person who feels it's their right. Maybe when the colonies had no protection against armed invaders on horseback, or when man needed to hunt for his meals, but now I don't see the point, more guns mean more death."
Incredible! What rock do these people live under?
Wait til he sees how he's gonna feel when they try to take them away...
Steven Lynes for congressman, senator, governor, VP to Palin. Pick one. Great article. Great responses.
