Read the last paragraph of the lnked article. The passengers were held for five hours without food or restroom access or being allowed to call relatives, until they were all interviewed.

A nation of suspects. If the terrorists win, how will we tell?
They ganged up on the attempted bomber. Why shy away from action to counter abuse by the Fibbies, the TSA? Huh?

Now substitute the word "government" for "terrorism."
That just about covers it all right there.
In the interest of job security, and pumping their own ego, the powers that be have to turn everything into a "we're in control" circus, so that the peasants don't get the (correct) idea it is they, and not the goons in uniforms, who run things. Reminds me of H. Clinton, and her "for your own good" bs. Their arrogance makes me hurl.
