Meanwhile, Over in Furious Mike Paradise...

In an unusual move, a heavily armed NYPD security battalion with enough firepower to wipe out Downtown Brooklyn descended onto the city's subway trains yesterday in response to suicide bombings in Russia that killed dozens of passengers in Moscow's subway. [Read]
Geared up for war, are we? Just in case anyone had any ideas about lifting any fingers, look what we can be trusted with...although I wonder what good shooting someone after they've exploded themselves will do

I'm waiting for the first "the gun went off" report...

Remember: "They" hate us 'cause we're free!

Now, now. Goons in black uniforms violating your rights aren't the enemy, goat herding cave dwellers 10,000 miles away are. Mkay?

Now remember, they must leave no crisis unexploited. Also, they've got to give all those goons something to do once in a while or they get antsy.

that was a Hell of an explosion in Moscow if we expected to find anything of it in our subway system.

So, if a woman with a large bulky coat, an over-sized handbag or a backpack walks onto one of these subway trains, what exactly are these officers going to do?
Do they think that if she were a suicide bomber that she would shout something as a warning before detonation, allowing them to shoot her dead instantly with overwhelming firepower?
What do you think the odds are that a suicide bomber would walk up to a cluster of these officers asking something like "Excuse me, why are you wearing black and carrying rifles?" while depressing a detonator to maximize the terror by killing several of them?
What sort of nihilistic apocalyptic fantasy are these officers and their superiors acting out?
Does the sight of these heavily armed officers make you feel more secure?

word verification: "derge" - similar to "dirge" - a funeral hymn, a slow, sad song, poem or musical composition expressing grief or mourning, a lament (Webster's New World College Dictionary)

Remember the Kelly LeBrock "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful!" commercial?

I'd suggest a variation: "Don't hate me because I'm armed!"
