But I actually decided to link to this story for another reason. Note the terminology. The AP doesn't call them "terrorists." They don't call them "extremists." They call them "gunmen."
Eh--perhaps I'm just making a mountain out of a mole hill here.
It's just when I see the same press characterizing people who use the First Amendment to advocate the right to keep and bear arms as zealots and "hatriots"...

I believe that your observation is spot-on. After decades of this biased tripe, combined with a lack of education, guns are finally becoming anthropomorphic devils in the minds of the majority.
It's good to call out propaganda when it's spotted.
I think there's a reason they keep reporting these guys as "gunmen in Iraqi army uniforms". We've already seen actual Iraqi forces involved in sectarian and revenge attacks. I think this phrasing is meant to distract us from the fact that it's still going on.
But David's point remains valid: Uniform; must good guy, must submit.
