How many of us can say without hesitation we'd put ourselves in harm's way to try to intervene and stop them?

Personally, no I would not intervene to save a cop. That being said, the punch, to my eyes, was defensible.
I'm SO GLAD the crime rate in Seattle is nonexistent so the police have time to monitor how each citizen crosses the street.
How unfortunate that the citizens have so little respect for their Overseers. They should have taken a knee in the Position of Respect and waited for justice to be meted out.
That officer needs to be charged with assault, and the union leader needs to be replaced.
There's a video of the incident:

I haven't watched because I'm on dialup. But commenters over at the Agitator (not a crowd much supportive of cops) describe a situation in which the cop may have actually been justified. They say the woman struck was getting pretty agressive in interfering with the arrest of her companion, and the officer really might have needed to escalate to that level. Again, these are commenters who tend to be biased against cops and their uses of force. But one said that in that situation, he might have skipped past punching and gone to drawing his sidearm.
Not having watched the video, I'll withold opinion for once.
I was going to comment on the website(NY Daily News) that
you linked the article from.
However, it would be pointless,
the comment section has been
overrun by the babbling of
ignorant and cowardly slaves.
Unfortunately, it seems that
they have also arrived here.
Most sincerely, dwayne chandler.
I am not shy about calling out a cop when he screws up. With that being said, even a stopped clock is correct twice a day.
I watched the video, and in this case, the police officer was attempting to take a woman into custody, when another woman tried to intervene and help the first woman escape.
In this case, the officer hit her to defend himself.Call me a cowardly slave if you want, but I call em like I see em.
(WV is pness. Heh)
