We're the Only Ones...

...Controlling More than Animals Enough:
Mass. animal control officer accused in gun theft
...Fixing Tickets Enough
Lawtey PD Officer Arrested, Charged with Bribery, Accused of Offering to Take Cash for Tickets
...Unaccountable Enough
"They walked over and talked to him for a minute or two, then walked back to me ... and then stuffed it into my chest, and said, 'He doesn't have to enter your Census. He doesn't have to enter any Census. He doesn't have to fill out any of your forms or answer any of your questions. And if I were you, I'd get into my car and get the hell outta here, right now.'
I just don't have time to do individual posts...

i'm of two minds on the "unaccountable enough" article...
on this particular issue (in my mind), his being a former officer has absolutely nothing to do with the scenario.
i say this because i filled out my census and mailed it in on time and a census worker came to my house anyway. i wasn't home so i didn't get to call the police on him, but i would have if i was there... i knew he came by because he left one of those blue notes with his name & phone number, etc. (i called him and told him not to bother coming back, he would get nothing out of me because i already completed my census)
anyway, if you filled out your census and mailed it in and the census worker comes by your house anyway he is trespassing... unless they expect you to commit fraud willingly and fill it out a second time in person (if it was filled out and mailed in the first time, wouldn't it be counted a second time if you did it in person and wouldn't that then be knowingly giving duplicate/false information?)
don't get me wrong, i have no respect for the "only ones", but this story doesn't necessarily strike me as an only ones story.

I have NO idea what information the "police officer" did or didn't fill out on his census form. If he filled in nothing at all, then he is obligated, at a minimum, to fill in the number of people at that address and verify the address. If he had already filled out that much, then he did not need to fill out any more.

That's what I did with my form. And I was visited 3 times (SOP) by census workers. But I was cordial enough, talked to them, told them my stance vis-a-vis the Constitution. No one called the police, no one got huffy. But they weren't invited into the house either.

I did tell them on the last visit, that if they want more information then just the number of people, then they needed to bring the LAW (not regulation, ruling, or suggestion) showing me where it was manditory for me to provide such. And a warrent.

Haven't seen 'em since. Or received any telephone calls (which I understand is also SOP).

yeah, it's and Only One story, not because of the issue of the census, but because the outcome would have been reversed had the resident not been a cop.
