That's One Way to Break Up a Crowd

Long Island Man Arrested For Defending Home With AK-47
Says Many Gang Members Were Coming After His Family [More]
A gazillion of you sent me this link. I was going to base today's Gun Rights Examiner column on this but then ran into the Firearms in Commerce Hearings story.

Maybe tomorrow...

Meanwhile, go read what Liberty Belles has to say.

Sounds like the authorities have lost control, don't care, and are embarrassed when it gets in the news.
Comments seem overwhelmingly supportive. Good. Living in fear is done.

Things have changed since Korean store owners in Los Angeles could hold off a mob by displaying semi-auto rifles on their roofs.
All according to the Plan.
I'm no good on the phone, but I'm going to email NY Gov. Paterson's office.

Mr. Grier did not use deadly force unless he directed one or more of the four shots at one or more of the gang members. The threat of deadly force is not an actual use of force. Unless the city of Long Island has an ordinance specifically forbidding the discharge of a firearm within its city limits and the projectiles did not cross into another’s private property or property belonging to the municipality there would appear to be no offense.

The police probably confiscated his firearm insuring that he won’t have any defense at all if the gang members make a return visit.

Done.

No doubt the "easy availability" of semi-auto rifles here 500 miles to the south will be blamed. After all, all it requires is money, a government-issued ID and matching proof of residence, filling out federal and state forms and passing an instant criminal record check. If we couldn't own weapons like these, criminals wouldn't feel they have to attack in platoons. Right?
If you're going to be a felon for defending your HOME with a MINIMUM of force -- Grier could possibly have taken them ALL out, but didn't shoot anyone -- well...

Nassau County, New York loaded with more government(village, county, state, fed) then anywhere else.

Approximately, 1 in 4 jobs are in some form of government position.

Currently, Nassau County Police Department (work 12 hour shifts)have to make less then 150 'appearances' per year.

Great gig if you can get it.

It should also be noted that they are one of the highest paid professional police departments in the nation (about $115,000 +/- yr.)

Just some insight into the mindset of the typical po po and why they are so dead set against anyone defending themselves from thugs. Especially, with a firearm.

I'll hold my breath for the NRA to ride to this guys rescue.

I have long held that firing warning shots (esp. in anti-self-defense jurisdictions) is foolish. In many places firing a weapon is interpreted as using deadly force, regardless of where it is aimed, and if you have time to fire a warning shot, then you are not in immediate danger of death or GBH (the standard in most places). That being said, his reasoning on police response and the use of ShotSpotter tech in bang on (you should pardon the pun). It is entirely possible that firing his weapon saved lives, by bringing in the police to defuse the situation, or at least make the BGs back down.
