Posing as ATF agents? I'm not ruling out the possibility of rogue dotgov thugs moonlighting. Either way, the only prudent option these days as a homeowner under attack by armed thugs is lethal response.

Gov't thugs or not, they got the drop on him and killed him, no doubt to eliminate the possibility that he would shoot back. Looks like the BATF and the common criminal learned from the Waco atrocity.

Maybe the dedicated violent felons remembered him coming to them for pot and figured he might be a good place to "get a lick," thug slang for robbery, rape, murder, or possibly a trifecta.
