Project Gunwalker ‘becoming a major scandal’

It’s past time mainstream “authorized journalists” stopped parroting the line ATF would like them to follow—certainly Project Gunrunner had catching big players as a goal, but the directed way the specific walking operation devolved leads to a conclusion the mainstream press has yet to explore: that elements within ATF intended guns to be found exactly for the reasons reported by Vanderboegh and me, to score some media success stories, to justify expansion of ATF power and authority, and to help gin up public demand for more “gun control” laws, such as a renewed “assault weapons” ban prematurely floated by Eric Holder two years ago. The anti-gun coalition has been using the Mexican crime gun canard ever since to try and build political support for just such an attempt, resorting to—you guessed it—padding statistics to do it. [More]
This afternoon's Gun Rights Examiner report notes the story just keeps growing. But it needs a bit of steering to make sure it grows in the right direction.

GRE column - Project Gunwalker ‘becoming a major scandal’

I’m a little confused about ATF’s allegation that their project gunwalker was initiated so they could take down “Mr. Big”. 1) ATF has no arrest authority in Mexico. 2) It appears that the Mexican government forbids US agents to carry while in Mexico. 3) The Mexican army and government LEOs already know the identities of the “Mr. Bigs” and either don’t have the desire or the armament to take them down. 4) ATF allowed enough walked guns for the cartels to effectively defend themselves against any covert treaty violating armed attack made by ATF against their strongholds.

Unless ATF, DoJ, and their lawyers’ level of stupidity is right up there with their arrogance I would cast my vote for the “Padded-Statistics-in-Order-to-Create-Increased-Gun-Control-in-the-US” theory.

Washington State Senators refuse to comment on the subject despite my requests. When I ask the aides if they know about gunwalker they plead ignorance. Once I spell it out, suddenly they know all about it. Cantwell and Murray are worthless dogs, even when the steak falls off the grill.
