"Well I was very very uncomfortable with the bill," she said. [More]Well, shoot, Jan, if it makes you uncomfortable, just look the other way. No sense seeing other experience discomfort.
If things are so all-fired safe on AZ campuses, maybe you could explain the rationale behind this...?
If it doesn't make you too uncomfortable...?

I don't read everything on the campus carry debates but I don't know if I've ever seen the best utilitarian argument even mentioned.
If you can't have a gun ON campus, you can't have one AROUND campus. Many many people take shuttles, bikes, public transportation, or walk to school. That means somebody's daughter has to walk FROM the school shuttle TO her apartment. This is where the attack will and very frequently does happen.
this was a crappy neutered bill that only allowed firearm carry on public right of ways through campus. Yes, we have a couple of major streets that cut through the middle of ASU. The thing is, we don't have people being stopped or harassed for carrying on those thoroughfares. I know it was an incremental win, but we will get a clean bill through in the future.
But David, Coloin Goddard is happy:
"It offends me that people who have never faced a gunman in the confined space of a classroom would think that it makes sense to allow loaded guns on campus, and even through rights of way. Gov. Brewer apparently understood the dangers of allowing guns to be transported through school and college zones, and I applaud her for rejecting this legislation that needlessly put lives at risk. Given the tragedy of Tucson, it's heartening to see elected officials stand up to the gun lobby and wake up to what needs to be done to protect the public from gun violence." -- Goddard.
