My understanding is that when people in government screw up, they don't get fired for the screw up per se, they get fired for what they do as a result of getting in trouble for it.
Melson seems to be in trouble and putting up a fight. We'll see if he makes a mistake. He better not come to work with his shoelaces untied or he might get a call from HR.
Interesting to see how that idea plays out with the rest of the cast of characters in Gunwalker.
