Which brings to mind another case that took place in Boundary County a decade back—or more correctly, one that did not take place. I’m talking about the dismissal of charges against FBI sniper Lon Horiuchi for the murder of Vicki Weaver. Defense against animals more of a crime than murdering a mother?

Apparently there are some who believe that a phone call reporting the killing of a bear that had posed a threat to one's children is more horrifying than this phone call.
Actually, whether it is defense against an animal or murder of a mother, there's no difference. The real difference, as you pointed out in your article, is whether it is one of us peons or an exalted "Only One" doing it.
Markie Marxist sez: "As my commie compadre, Bill Clinton put it, 'It depends on what the meaning of the word "is" is.'"
"If the shooter 'is' one of our Marxist/warrior/hero/government agents, then no crime was committed. On the other hand, if the shooter 'is' a private citizen, then the shooting was almost certainly a crime. So, you see, it all pivots on the meaning of 'is'."
