“It’s a sad day in America when an ... senior citizen with a heart condition can’t defend himself against an intruder breaking into his house”...[More]Indeed. And it's sad how many "conservative" gun owners--including the Lairds of Fairfax--demand past felonies be a punishable disqualifier, instead of recognizing that anyone who can't be trusted with a gun can't be trusted without a custodian.

Shouldn't the several STATES be able to decide who gets to own weapons within their boundaries? In Texas, 5 years after everything is settled (jail time/probation/fines/whatever) a felon is allowed - under state law - to own firearms. The feds NEVER forgive/forget. When/how did federal law come to trump state law in everything? Would someone show me where Article 1; Section 8 gives Congress the power to make the supreme law of the land? For that matter where does it give Congress the power to regulate firearms OWNERSHIP at all? Commerce I can see; OWNERSHIP, not so much - HELL'S BELLS I can't see it AT ALL!!
I'm with you on the custodian thing. The man was in his home defending himself and his wife. I see no problem with this.
Unless I missed something, the man's only "crime" was violating a blatantly unConstitutional prohibition.
As usual, the good guys are on the wrong side of the bars.
