No, Dave, they aren't saying that. They know it's true, so they can't SAY it.
When I quit drinking, a guy tried to talk me out of it by saying, "You're not really an alcoholic. Hell, I drink more tha...". He got real quiet after that. He died sober, but it took years for him to come around.
