Maj. William “Bloody Bill” Cunningham and a large force of Loyalist militia attacked a group of Patriot militia that were resting in the home of their commander, Col. Joseph Hayes. The Patriots surrendered when the home was set on fire. Bloody Bill then lived up to his name by personally killing every prisoner in cold blood. [More]

"... Personally killing every prisoner in cold blood..." sounded bad enough, then I clicked the link and found out it got even worse. I wonder what the loyalist militia members thought as they left the scene, or if they had participated in those final acts.
Then I wondered if such barbaric things could happen today on our soil, and of course the answer has to be yes, because centuries pass but the human heart never changes. Pray we don't have to face that test.
